Faithfulness: God's Style II

I am not sure how much time has passed, but Nehemiah has gotten word of walls around Jerusalem. THEY WERE NOT FINISHED! They were UP, but not finished. Hmm? Does this sound like a strong defense system to you? Not at this moment. NOTE: In the days of Nehemiah (and 70 years prior to the destruction of Jerusalem), there were 10 Gates, and 1 wall. This is a discussion for another time. You never know, some of that information may "leak" into this post . Nehemiah KNEW the imporatance of having a city with walls. HE knew the STARK REALITY of having the WALL around Jerusalem. Did you know... A city is not a city because of it population? I did not either--until the King's Men went through the study on the Wall and Gates of Jerusalem -- Ezra 1 and Nehemiah (Ezra 2). A city was a city because of it's walls and tower. WALLS: Indicated protection and strength: JHWH (God) GATES: Indicated the character (lifestyle) of the city (Lord God--Yeshua). While people are keeping watch, they joined the battle (while working), the wall was completed in 52 days (worked day and night). Nehemiah was a cup-bearer to the king. How would you get that job? Who did you make mad? Right? Actually, this is a position of honor, because the king would trust you to protect him (and the queen). Also, you would have to have some VERY HIGH character traits, or else you too could be pursuaded to poison the king. If you wanted to kill the king, why would you poison the cup-bearer? What was really the significance of that--unless, you really wanted to exterminate the "cup-bearer" and NOT the king. Right? This is also why you need to be honoring and loving to all people, not just the king. Someone had to pour the wine, smash the grapes (with feet-uhhg). You don't know where their feet have walked. Remember people, you are alive to serve your Creator, not just yourself. Can you imagine having to leave your home during an invasion, tornadic storm, hurricane, or loss of electricity? While you are gone, you find out everything you have known has been destroyed. You would want to get back as quickly as possible. I am sure of that. This, I imagine is what happened in the heart and mind of Nehemiah. He was allowed to go home and check on things. WOW! What he saw was unbelievable! I mean, he had heard about this, but words escaped him. He had to get to work. However, he had to get back to his post as the cup-bearer. The king needed him. His life was also at stake. Yet, so was the city of Jerusalem. I imagine that Nehemiah and Ezra had some SERIOUS conversations about the state of there city. Nehemiah departs for the side of the Persian king, all-the-while thinking of what he could do to get those walls and gates back in operation for the holy city. He asked if he could go back to Jerusalem. He returned. He went back and rousted the men to get to work. He gave them a wonderful speach; and I am quite sure he shared the ramifications of NOT having God (wall) and the Lord God (gates) in place to give them strength, protection, and an identity. What a motivator! Just think... He did not even go to seminary to get told what to do, or learn about who God was. I am poking here. Schooling is cool, but is NOT neccessary to find out the nuances of God's Word. That is the Holy Spirit's position. We can be set apart as a priest and scribe (Ezra) to get the work done, or we can be a cup-bearer for the king of a distant land. God can and will use you for Himself. His Holy Spirit WILL teach you what you need to know. You can do it in Him (Them). Nehemiah and the men put their war clothes on, armor up (and these were farmers) with sticks, winnowing forks, and sickles to protect the workers while they were building the wall and gates. There were times when hair had to fly! Anger had to rise. But God was being glorified through it all. Man! God's people are something when they get serious about accomplishing His work huh? Fifty-two days to finish. Dude! Talk about a vigil. Where are you today with the work God has set you apart to do? Get busy! As I mentioned in the 1st post (same subject), READ THE BOOK, it is MUCH better than the movie. NEHEMIAH!!!
