Bold Due to Assurance, or Cocky Without Cause?
All Christians (sinners repenting too) of every color, of all backgrounds, and each denomination have an open invitation to go speak with the One on the throne. He is the the King of grace. "This place is the symbol of royal government, and often is looked to as the place for judgement" (Ps 122:5; Is 16:5). "Since God alone is the true King, it is natural that the word throne should apply to His royal authority" (Ps 11:4; 45:6), especially His authority as Judge. There is so much to the topics of judgement, mercy and grace, that no one really has any idea as to how to define either. I have heard however, that "grace is when we receive what we do not deserve; and mercy is when we deserve something and don't receive it." Isn't this how our children approach us? They know they are in trouble. They may even have just been disciplined, and yet they still come to us, their parental judges, and ask for mercy or grace because they have the hope of getting a reprieve from the sentence they just received, or are expecting to receive. We all know that feeling. Do you remember the hope of getting to spend the night over at a friend's house; or getting to take in a movie after we were placed on a punishment that day, and our parents allowed us to start a day or so later so we could enjoy ourselves? Yep, those depict mercy and grace! When we go to God in prayer, we go expecting an answer. We don't go NOT expecting something good to return to us for our time and effort. Do you? I don't. That request could be a serious one (healing or bill payment), or a simple one (testing finals or even a favorite sports team to win). Either way, we look to the One Who sits on the throne to answer in the way we desire, regardless the request. Take a look at the quick study I did on "approaching the throne of grace." Paul instructs us, by the Holy Spirit's help, that we should "BOLDLY" approach that throne where grace (sometimes referred to as the mercy seat) is. The next time you read scriptures concerning the throne or prayer, think about this: no matter our backround (saved or not), (bond or free), (brown, red, yellowish, dark or peach skinned), we are encouraged to get there! Being whole in spirit (repentant heart), soul and body; we are to be "thorough" and "complete" in our approach. Our "drawing near" should be as effortless as the water when it flows. When we arrive, we should utter (speak) fluidly as pouring water; command or say in such a way (causing things to happen). We should always be plain, blunt, frank and outspoken when speaking with the Lord. We are to be fully assured (you had better know what you are talking about) of your request. Why? You are talking to the "Word of God." When you pray, use His Word, and "remind Him of what His promises are in Scripture." He will "hasten to do what He has said." Plus, I would imagine, if you know what He is talking about in His Bible, He does too. Be BOLD! He wants you to be. But hey, do your homework!
